TANZANIA
According to the National Malaria Control Program, approximately 17 to 20 million malaria cases occur in Tanzania per year, accounting for over 40% of all outpatient attendance. Of those cases, more than 80,000 people die from the disease each year; it is a major killer of children under five years old.
In Tanzania, Voices national and district level advocacy work enhances the effectiveness of existing behavior change communication (BCC) programs while strengthening the national level advocacy focus on applying resources effectively.
In Tanzania Voices, in collaboration with Tanzania National Malaria Movement (TANAM)*, aims to:
- To coordinate resources and advocate through sustainable research, information and knowledge sharing, partnership building, and lobbying for a malaria-free environment in our communities.
Voices uses three key strategies for malaria control in Tanzania:
- Monitoring evaluation and surveillance of malaria sites for malaria epidemic early detection and response.
- Community mobilization for community –based malaria control and BCC activities
- Capacity building to facilitate planning and training in the regions and districts.
