KENYA
According to Roll Back Malaria, more than 124,000 cases of malaria were reported in Kenya in 2005. One in eight deaths is from malaria among children under five, and the disease is found in 77% of the country.
In Kenya, the Voices Project supports the CORE (Child Survival Collaborations and Resources) Group’s work with Kenya NGO Alliance Against Malaria (KeNAAM) to help break down funding barriers that affect the use of essential malaria interventions.
Activities to Date
- Held several advocacy conferences
- Established three task forces to address the development of the strategy, data and information collection, and identification if key champions to carry out activities.
- CORE and KeNAAM presented on the theme of partnership and collaboration at the Global Health Council Meeting.
- Sponsored a basketball tournament with a focus on engaging players in malaria advocacy and linked with the Kenya association of body builders to include messages round malaria during breaks in competitions.
- Distributed the first issue of “Malaria Stop,” the KENAAM newsletter and issued a special malaria newspaper supplement for Africa Malaria Day
- Developed a media database for journalists and stories and a database of MPs in malarias zones.

- Finalize Kenya Monitoring and Evaluation framework
- Establishment of the KeNAAM website
- Establishing a Malaria blog on the KeNAAM website.
