This year, the African Union Commission recognized World Malaria Day, April 25, calling on Heads of State and Governments to meet the Abuja targets to eliminate and eventually eradicate malaria from Africa. "This is feasible as malaria is preventable, easy to diagnose and treat successfully, which entails collective efforts by stakeholders at Member State level and further development of partnerships by the UN family, other international organizations and initiatives, together with African continental and regional groupings," according to a press release from the AU Commissioner of Social Affairs, Her Excellency Bience Gawanas.
