Stakeholders from Nkoranza attend Anti-Malaria workshop - 4 September 2010
Mr. Emmanuel Fiagbey, Country Director of Johns Hopkins University Centre for Communication Programme and Voices for Malaria-free future project, has stated that a research conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that malaria accounts for an average of 19 per cent of all recorded deaths in Ghana.
He stressed the need for the public to promote environmental sanitation in order to check against mosquito breeding and to prevent the spread of the disease.
Mr. Fiagbey was addressing about 120 stakeholders from the Nkoranza South District at Nkoranza at the launch of an appeal for funds towards the promotion of Malaria Advocacy Programme in the communities …
Asante-Akim South District Assembly supports the campaign against malaria - March 6, 2010
Council members unanimously agreed at their ordinary meeting at Juaso that GH¢2.00 should be deducted from their allowance for this. Others also made additional personal cash donations. The Akatsi District Assembly is to initiate an anti-malaria drive aimed at reducing the high incidence of the disease in the area with over 41,341 cases being recorded in 2009 alone, a three-fold surge over the 2004 record of 11, 619 cases. The District Chief Executive, Mr. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, who announced this during a District Malaria Advocacy Start-up forum on Wednesday, expressed the optimism that the new measures could significantly help to reduce the negative impact of the disease on productivity, especially on agricultural production …
Nkoranza, Ghana (29 December 2009)
Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief executive, has called for more investment towards the control of malaria, since the disease is a major cause of deaths in most communities … The DCE commended the organizers of the workshop for selecting the district to participate in the programme and gave the assurance that the Assembly would support the programme to help free the people from the disease.
Hohoe Municipal Assembly, Ghana (28 November 2009):
Addressing a special session of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly (HMA) here on Tuesday, Mr. Fiagbey appealed to local government authorities to spell out malaria prevention as a key component of their development agenda, particularly its impact on the economy … The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Victor Condobrey, accepted the challenge and vowed to work with departmental heads in promoting the ideas being championed by the National Malaria Control Program and the Voices for Malaria-free Future project.
World Malaria Day, Ghana (21 April 2009):
The District Malaria Advocacy Teams (DMAT), which includes eleven districts in various parts of Ghana, last Friday, marked World Malaria Day, with the theme “District Leadership Involvement in Counting Malaria Out” in Accra. The forum was held to review the performance of the district level leadership in supporting relevant and effective malaria prevention and treatment programs, and define ways in which district level malaria advocacy could contribute to facilitating support for the national effort in counting out malaria.
